Springfield is a neighborhood located in the urban core of Jacksonville, just north of downtown. Springfield is known for its diversity, recent revitalization and struggle with urban living and concerns. While this neighborhood was home to many of Jacksonville’s most affluent residents in the early 1900s, it declined in the mid-1900s as new roads developed that isolated Springfield from surrounding communities. Despite its decline, historic Springfield has become a focus of development and renewal once again. According to Wikipedia, “The neighborhood’s rapid redevelopment has been led by a partnership of municipal programs, private real estate developers, progressive not-for-profit arts and cultural developers.”
